Air Canada Aeroplan guide
Air Canada · Aeroplan points · Star Alliance
Aeroplan is the loyalty programme of Air Canada. In Canada it is earned directly on TD, CIBC and American Express Aeroplan cards and can be filled by converting Amex Membership Rewards points 1:1 or Marriott Bonvoy points 3:1.
How it works
Aeroplan is the Air Canada loyalty programme; points are Aeroplan Points. Air Canada describes itself as a founding member of Star Alliance.
Earning
Canadian cards that earn Aeroplan points directly are issued by TD, CIBC and American Express. American Express Membership Rewards converts to Aeroplan at 1,000 points = 1,000 Aeroplan points, and Marriott Bonvoy points convert at 3 to 1.
Using rewards
Aeroplan points are redeemed through the Aeroplan programme for Air Canada and partner flights and other rewards. Check the live redemption price and taxes before converting points from a bank programme.
Partners
Air Canada lists Star Alliance and other airline partners on its partners page; availability and pricing are set by Aeroplan.
Expiry
Under the Aeroplan terms an account becomes inactive, and its points are forfeited, if you have not accumulated or redeemed points for 18 consecutive months. Aeroplan credit-card issuers separately state that points do not expire while the primary cardholder holds the card in good standing.
Before you book
American Express and CIBC have announced Aeroplan card annual-fee changes and new Air Canada benefits effective January 12, 2027; these are recorded separately from current prices. Transfers from bank programmes cannot be reversed.
